Prisons Commanders Moved in New Reshuffle

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija, has transferred 37 senior and junior prisons officers and sent on leave another 53 in a major shakeup of the unit.

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija, has transferred 37 senior and junior prisons officers and sent on leave another 53 in a major shakeup of the unit.

In a statement issued on July 6, Dr Byabashaija said the changes, which are meant to improve service delivery, take immediate effect.

Some of those move include the Western Region Prisons Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP) James Emotu, who has been moved to manage Inspectorate at Prisons Headquarters.

He will be replaced by Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Peter Ariko who has been in charge of Mbarara Main Prison.

Southern Region Prisons Commander Kenneth Mugabirwe has been sent for accumulated leave and will hand over to Allan John Mushabe, who was the District Prisons Commander (DPC) for Masaka.

Commissioner of Prisons (CP) in charge of Industries Wilson Francis Magomu has been appointed CP Custodial Services, Safety and Security, replacing Mr Robert Munanura who is taken to Industries.

The Commander of Mid Central Region Prisons, ACP Vincent Kubomu, goes on leave pending retirement, and he hands over to SSP Fred Kajubi Kayongo who was the officer in charge Kitalya Prison Farm.

SSP Apollo Bakwate Akankunda moves to the Directorate of Cooperation and Corporate Affairs, Superintendent of Prisons (SP) Benjamin Bunkwaitse Ngabwah moves to Prisons Industries, SP Geoffrey Natabona Mangeni from Kakiika Prison to Kitalya Prison Farm as OC, ASP Josephine Nakakawa (Prisons Headquarters for duty), ASP Yunusu Kayima (Nakasongola Prison Farm for duty), ASP Moses Byaruhanga (Prisons Headquarters, Projects Development for duty), ASP Nicholas Wandera (Prisons Headquarters, Farms for duty) and ASP Hannington Nsubuga (Prisons Headquarters, Industries for duty).

Among those sent on leave are principal Officer One (POI) Felix Okwanga, POI Donantino Nabwire and ASP Fatina Wakabi (OC Busesa Prison) among others.

“These orders take immediate effect unless otherwise stated. All leave must strictly be taken outside the Institutions. The Director of Administration to facilitate execution of these orders without delay,” Dr Byabashaija said.
