Rwanda peacekeepers in CAR celebrate Liberation Day

Rwandan peacekeepers operating in Central African Republic under the Multidimensional integrated mission for stabilization in Central African Republican (MINUSCA) joined the rest of Rwandans to celebrate the 22nd liberation on July 04.

Rwandan peacekeepers operating in Central African Republic under the Multidimensional integrated mission for stabilization in Central African Republican (MINUSCA) joined the rest of Rwandans to celebrate the 22nd liberation on July 04.

The event was marked at MPOKO SOCATEL, the base camp for Rwanda Defence Force peacekeepers in Central African Republic and attended by Rwanda National Police peacekeepers operating in the mission. The event was graced by CAR Prime Ministe Simplice Serandji along with several government officials. MINUSCA representatives included the Mission Chief of staff Alioune Sene, the Deputy Force Commander Gen. Sadiki Traore, the Police Commissioner Com Luis Carrhilo, among others. Members of the Rwandan community living in Bangui were also present at the colorful event.

In his address, Prime Minister Saradji pointed out that the history which characterized Rwanda is similar to that of his country. "I would like the Rwandan experience in liberating their country to serve as reference to Central African population for reunification as whole," he said He commended the government of Rwanda for its contribution to peacekeeping operations worldwide and particularly in Central African Republic and saluted Rwandan peacekeepers in MINUSCA for their effort and valuable activities in their respective areas of responsibility, professionalism, courage and especially discipline.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gilbert R. Gumira narrated Rwanda’s journey of liberation while Col Frederic Itangayenda of Rwanda Defence Force talked about the Rwanda’s achievements after the liberation in the last 22 years
