Rwamagana:Rwanda Education Assistance Practice inaugurates its Community Library and Learning Center

Recently as July 17th ,2018, Rwanda Education Assistance Practice (REAP) has inaugurated the Learning Community Center in which the community and neighboring schools will be facilitated to learn.

Recently as July 17th ,2018, Rwanda Education Assistance Practice (REAP) has inaugurated the Learning Community Center in which the community and neighboring schools will be facilitated to learn English language, Science, Humanities and Skills about human security issues like nutrition and family conflict resultion. The establishment cost 71.437.886 RWF.

Around 500 people attended, include community members, Rwamagana District officials,Christine Niyizamwiyitira (in charge of ICT in eduction at the Rwanda Education Board) and Mukayuhi Constance Rwaka, a member of the Rwandan Parliament.

Some of the residents got excited of the center and say it is important to facilitate their children’s learning.

“Even though I am not able to learn but my children will learn, I have some educated and there are learning computer skills and those old will go there to learn how to prepare a good diet for their children” says Jean Claude Kayonga.

Member of Parliament MukayuhiRwaka Constance said that the Center will play a big role to the communityand schools in general.

This learning community center will prevent young generations from drugs and alcohol use and students from around the Center will easily learn technology as it is in country vision” she said.

Mutatsineza Jean Paulin,, the country director of Rwanda Education Assistance Practice in Rwanda explains the effects at the Center.

The first thing we encourage the community to actively participate in the projects the Center. We formed the Community board composed of 12 community members to encourage ownership and sustainability. The board is responsible for utilization of resources to benefit the community and ensure maintenance and security of the Center”He said.

I came here in 2006 and we saw children who wanted to study to Duha Complex School so we became cumulative very happy in education and I started this project”. Says Edward Ballen, the founder of REAP.

So we want the community to own the Center and to send the children and the parents involve in children education” He recommended.

UmutoniJeanne,Rwamagana district Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs explains how they are so excited of the Center and recommends to maintain the infrastructure.

Today we are very excited of this project which is facilitating community to technology, health and sanitation studiesand other issues like Village Kitchen known as [Igikonicy’Umudugudu] and it is important to the district because it is the one way to accomplish district’s targets (Imihigo) “She said.

We want the community board to maintain the center’s activities and serve the community as they are in the board and if they face challenges with no capacity to solve, they should come to look for us as we are the district leaders to help”She recommended the residents and the community board.
