The District Police Commander of Burera, Supt. Dieudonné Rwangombwa, on July 9, held a meeting with about 40 members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in the district to discuss further means to fight and prevent crimes.

In a meeting held in Karangara Cell of Rugarama Sector, Supt. Rwangombwa first thanked the youth for their dedicated and voluntary community policing services which he said have played a significant part in raising awareness against crime. He, however, urged them to put much emphasis in awareness campaigns as one of the preventive measures against high impact crimes like drug abuse, human trafficking and people smuggling. “Drug abuse is still a challenge to security… there is still need for strengthened efforts to raise awareness against narcotics like cannabis, illicit gin and other illicit brews,” Supt. Rwangombwa said. “Your role is therefore paramount to fight this vice and save the youth, the majority victims.”

Gervais Ngemba, the coordinator of youth volunteers in Burera said: “Everyone gives what he/She has and as the youth we have that ability to make community policing a success. We should be exemplary.” He pledged to strengthen their community policing activities in schools and communities to fight the vice and other crimes.
